5 Essential Winter Wedding Tips

1. Adjust Your Timings for the Light
Winter daylight disappears quickly! So, our advice is to adjust your timings to make the most of the natural daylight. A 1pm ceremony works beautifully in winter, gives you plenty of time for daylight photos before the sun sneaks off. Speeches before dinner also work best and we highly recommend a longer cocktail hour (around 1.5 hours), because let’s be real… cocktail hour hits different in winter! See our recommended winter timings HERE!
2. Choose a Venue That Suits the Season
When it comes to winter weddings, your venue really sets the tone. Look for somewhere that comes alive in the colder months…think glowing fireplaces and plenty of indoor spaces that photograph beautifully if the weather isn’t on your side. If possible, choose a venue that can host both your ceremony and reception. It keeps the day feeling seamless and relaxed (and means no one has to brave the cold or unpredictable weather between locations!).
3. Embrace Candlelight!
Lighting makes all the difference in winter. Go big on candles, fairy lights, and lanterns etc, they’ll give your space that warm, glowy vibe that looks amazing in photos once the sun dips. And if your venue allows, a sparkler shot is always a winner!
4. Keep Your Guests Cosy
Keep guests warm, cosy and happy makes all the difference! You could have blankets, fire pits, or a hot drinks station ready to go.
5. Lean into the season
Winter weddings always feel best when you embrace the season! Go for rich colours, textured decor, and comfort food that warms everyone up. Seasonal cocktails are also a must. The key? Make it feel intentional, not themed.
And there you have it… five simple but essential winter wedding tips to help you make the most of the season!
